Concern for Safety
District 75 is deeply concerned with the safety of every child in the school. Safety procedures and rules are taught in each home room. The need for safety extends beyond the school grounds. The home, community, and school must share the responsibility for maintaining safety standards.
The district provides free transportation for any district student who resides:
- At a distance of 1.2 miles or more from his or her assigned school, unless the school board has certified to the Illinois State Board of Education that adequate public transportation is available
- Within 1.2 miles from his or her assigned school where walking to a school, pick-up point, or bus stop would constitute a serious hazard due to vehicular traffic or rail crossing and where adequate public transportation is unavailable - parent(s) / guardian(s) may file a petition with the board requesting transportation due to the existence of a serious safety hazard.
Schedules / Routes
Bus schedules and routes are determined by the superintendent or designee and are altered only with the superintendent's or designee’s approval and direction. In fixing the routes, the pick-up and discharge points should be as safe and convenient for students as possible. Requests for change in stop locations during the week will not be allowed unless there is a change in family circumstances. Requests for friends to ride home with students or for students to change buses to go home with a friend are also not permitted.
Every vehicle used for the transportation of students must pass safety inspections in accordance with state law and Illinois Department of Transportation regulations. The strobe light on a school bus may be illuminated any time a bus is bearing students. The superintendent shall implement procedures in accordance with state law for accepting erratic driving reports. The district will cooperate with the Lake County School Transportation Task Force as well as county and local governmental agencies that deal with public school transportation safety issues in establishing procedures for school bus accidents.
Charter Bus Services
All contracts for charter bus services must contain the state's clause regarding criminal background checks for bus drivers.
