Mechanics Grove school is a Lighthouse "Leader in Me" School. There are currently 101 "Leader in Me Schools" worldwide. We believe that leadership develops through using the right habits and tools designed for achieving an individual's success. We know that every child who enters our doorway has unique talents and gifts. Our job is to help children clearly see that they have these innate gifts and to use these gifts in learning, leading, living and leaving a legacy. At Mechanics Grove School, we believe that our teachers are the models of leadership by their actions, their words, and their teaching. Leadership means learning to take responsibility for your actions, your relationships, and academic and life's success. Respect, responsibility, and habits that lead to quality relationships or interdependence are ubiquitously woven into instruction throughout the day. Children learn to self-manage and lead themselves first. We teach children to manage their academics and set personal goals through leadership notebooks. Children learn how to set goals, track their progress by keeping their assessments and data scores, all the while they learn to collaborate with their teachers to create a map designed to achieve these goals. Celebrations are exciting events when these goals have been reached. We have created a culture that develops the whole child—emotional, social, academic, cultural, and physical fitness! Our faculty is committed to creating a positive climate that nurtures kindness, service, empathy and compassion.
Stephen R. Covey, author of the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and "The Leader in Me", left his mark on education by distilling timeless leadership principles described throughout the centuries by countless authors. Schools have now found these very same principles can be taught to children. Our staff is committed to student success! Our parents will learn more about the “7 Habits” through scheduled coffees and workshops to be provided throughout the calendar year. We will be hosting evening parent training in District 75 for "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families". Invitations will be sent out through multiple channels; backpack mail, D 75 school newsflashes, and PTO manager. Plan to attend! Our goal is to create a vibrant parent school community where every parent has a voice.
Children's successes will be celebrated each month during our assemblies. Culminating the year's learning, our children will present a Leadership Day on April 28, 2016. Students will present their own successes to our audience of parents and community leaders. In addition, the evening hallmark is "Celebration of Learning and the Arts". This will be a gala event hosted by your child! Surely this will be a momentous event in your family's life. Plan to be inspired by your child and his or her successes! We definitely learn through their eyes!
