Día de los Muertos is the Day of the Dead, a Latin American cultural celebration of life in which participants honor and remember their loved ones who have passed away. The event will feature fun activities for children, food, music, dances and a traditional ofrenda, or altar, will be on display. The making of the ofrenda will be a joint effort on behalf of our district’s teachers, administration and school community members.
The Día de los Muertos event will give all students in the district an opportunity to learn about and take part in this important cultural celebration held all over Latin America every November 1st. “We are ecstatic to be able to provide this cultural event here at District 75 for the first time ever! Día de los muertos validates a culture that represents a third of our community’s population,” said Annais Diaz, District 75 Bilingual Coordinator.
