Superintendent Updates

Superintendent’s Bi-Weekly Message, 5-26-2021
End of School Year
As a reminder, the school year ends for Mundelein High School on Thursday, May 27, and for the District 75 elementary schools on Thursday, June 3.
Planning for the Coming School Year
With the school year winding down we are already preparing for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has issued a resolution that all schools will have in-person learning for the coming school year. The resolution provides one exception to in-person learning. Remote learning in the context of 105 ILCS 5/10-30 and 105 ILCS 5/34-18.66 would still be required for students who are both not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine and also under a quarantine order. Students who do not meet these criteria may be eligible for home/hospital instruction pursuant to 105 ILCS 5/14-13.01.
For your planning, the dates for the opening of school in August are listed below:
Wednesday, August 11             Institute Day, both districts – no student attendance
Thursday, August 12                  First full day of school for all students in grades 1 – 12
Monday, August 16                    Institute Day, District 75 only; Student attendance District 120
Tuesday, August 17                    School resumes for all students
COVID-19 Vaccines for anyone 12 and older
A reminder that Mundelein High School will host vaccines for anyone 12 years of age and older on Thursday, May 27 from 3 to 9 pm. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Please print, sign and bring the consent form:  COVID Vaccine Informed Consent
People must register for a time slot for the vaccine here:   link(Opens in a new window).
This will be the last regular Bi-Weekly message of the school year. However, we will continue to stay in touch and will contact you when necessary.
Have an enjoyable summer, everyone!
Dr. Kevin Myers

COVID-19 vaccines available to anyone age 12 and over

Mundelein High School will host COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone 12 years of age and older on Thursday, May 27 from 3 to 9 pm. Approximately 52 people can be vaccinated every 50 minutes during this time frame. The second dose of the Pfizer vaccination will be held at the same place and times on Thursday, June 17. People must sign up for a time slot for the vaccine at this link.

The vaccinations will be administered in the North Gym at the high school. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Districts 75 and 120 personnel will staff the event.

“We are happy to make this event possible in our community so that area residents have easy, convenient access to the vaccine if they choose,” said Kevin Myers, Districts 75/120 superintendent.

Local services will also be on-site including CERT for campus traffic, the Mundelein Police and Fire Departments along with a paramedic.

“We expect to vaccinate all people who wish to be vaccinated in a safe, orderly environment,” said Kevin Quinn, MHS director of buildings and grounds and coordinator of the event.  “This is a great opportunity to serve area residents and make access to the vaccine as convenient as possible.”

Please print the following documents and bring them with you to the site.

To Our D75 Families:

This is our third bi-weekly message to keep you informed about what is happening in District 75 at this time.

As you know, we have been working to have all of our hybrid students in the building. As of April 7, we had zero students on the waiting list in the entire district. Starting on April 19, all of our hybrid students at Carl Sandburg will begin attending classes in person four days a week. The four in-person days will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays will remain a remote learning day for all students.

We are investigating the possibility of modifying the school start times at Washington, Mechanics Grove, Carl Sandburg and Mundelein High School for the 2021-2022 school year. Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 14, we will host an English and Spanish virtual Zoom webinar to discuss the proposed start times.

English Webinar (6:30 - 7:15 PM):

Spanish Webinar (7:30 - 8:15 PM):

With just about a month left of this school year, we look forward to celebrating the hard work and many accomplishments our students have made during this unique time.

A Nuestras Familias D75:

To Our D75 Families:

As we move through the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year, I would like to inform you of important updates and changes that you will see take place in the coming weeks.

CDC Guidelines

With the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) guidelines being changed (social distance, vaccine participation, etc.) we will make appropriate changes based on the new guidelines. That means we are reducing the social distance limit to three feet in the classroom to accommodate having more students in the building per the CDC guidelines.

On March 15, Washington and Mechanics Grove began full day classes four days a week. We are working out the logistics at Lincoln and Carl Sandburg of reviewing classroom capacities and working with our bus company regarding routes and bus drivers so we may have our students at Lincoln and Carl Sandburg attend in-person four days a week. Students at Lincoln will start attending four days a week on Monday, April 12. Students at CSMS will start attending four days a week on Monday, April 19. The four in-person days will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays will remain a remote learning day for all students. The principals at Lincoln and CSMS will provide more detailed information in the near future.

Network Update

Under the Children’s Internet Protection Act, all schools are required to have an internet safety policy and protection measures in place. The protection measures must block or filter internet access to websites that contain material that is deemed inappropriate. This policy has been in place and enforced by District 75 for several years using a CIPA filtering appliance. In the next few days, Mundelein Elementary School District 75 will be moving to a new cloud-based filtering platform. Migrating to this new platform should be a seamless process on student Chromebooks. This transition should address the internet issues we have been experiencing. Once students sign in to their Chromebook, the extension will automatically download and install and then immediately start filtering the student’s internet no matter what Wi-Fi network they are connected to. Moving the filtering to the cloud will free up valuable resources on our network, speed up internet access on Chromebooks and enhance the E-Learning experience.

School Start Time Analysis For Next Year

At the March Board meetings for Districts 75 and 120 the Boards supported researching changing school start times for the 2021 - 2022 school year.

In the coming weeks, we will provide opportunities for community feedback. Throughout this process, the community will be involved. Forums and surveys for the community will be scheduled.

Upcoming Dates:

  • April 14 - Material Pick-Up for families at Washington, Mechanics Grove and Carl Sandburg.
  • April 16 - Half-Day

Half-Day Early Release:

Lincoln: No school

Washington: 11:45 am Student Dismissal

Mechanics Grove: 11:00 am Student Dismissal

Carl Sandburg: 10:45 am Student Dismissal

As always, thank you for your continued support and cooperation during this time.

Dr. Kevin Myers

Dr. Kevin Myers
