Assistant Principal Named

The Mundelein District 75 Board of Education appointed Michael Sand as the new assistant principal of Carl Sandburg Middle School. He will begin his new position July 1.

Mr. Sand will replace Cam Nystrom who was hired as principal of MacArthur Middle School in Prospect Heights. Mr. Sand comes to the district from Morris Elementary School District 54 in Morris where he worked for seven years. He was the district’s athletic director and dean of students.

“We’re excited to have Mike join the Sandburg family. He has a wealth of energy,” said CSMS Principal Mark Pilut. Mr. Pilut was impressed with his knowledge of peer mediation, 1-1 knowledge and his understanding of the Danielson Model.

Mr. Nystrom is leaving the district after six years at CSMS. During his time in the middle school he helped develop common instructional vocabularies with teachers through The Skillful Teacher, helped create and expand the school’s CODE model for students and was active with the community through Mundelein STAND-UP and the Lake County After School Coalition.
