MG views family ownership of the 7 Habits as a way to help young children embed the philosophy into their lives, becoming just that – habit.)  To open, an overview of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids was given in both English and Spanish for the 30some families attending.  The group then rotated between two breakout sessions where they could set family goals and create at home leadership roles.  Work time and staff member guidance helped moms, dads and children make meaningful goals such as reading, eating, or cleaning together, or creating a family game night.  Responsibility was a focal point as families assigned specific roles to its members like: “laundry helper” or “chef’s assistant” while taking into consideration how to balance homework and other family obligations.  A calendar to track the family goals, record the implementation of leadership roles, and to celebrate achievement was also provided.  Sprinkles, peppermint candies, whipped cream, heart-shaped marshmallows and more topped off the family work time and their drinks, as everyone enjoyed a trip to the elaborate hot chocolate bar!  MG families can look for another 7 Habits function such as this to be held again in the upcoming months.
