Coach Diaz has been a Boys Volleyball coach at Carl Sandburg Middle School for 15 years. This year, his 7th grade boys won the conference volleyball championship. For Coach Diaz, this is the 12th year in a row that a team coached by him has won the championship.

Coach Diaz is well respected and loved by staff and students alike. Michael Fansler, CSMS physical education teacher and fellow coach, who has coached with Diaz for the past 15 years, says that, “The one thing that inspires me is his passion for the kids and his community. He is a Mundelein boy and strives to make all the kids of his community better, not just his players. He is the coach that all coaches should strive to be. Ashley Buchman, another teacher who has coached with Diaz, explains, “He takes the time to get to know them on a personal level, and every year he has players who are in high school or older come back to help with his current middle school team. In taking the time to get to know his players, the players become highly motivated to work hard all season.”
